At Ebbon Group, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in nurturing talent, supporting growth, and building an environment where colleagues feel empowered to thrive. In this edition of our employee insight series, we speak with Charlotte, an Ebbon Automotive Project Manager, who will soon be celebrating an incredible ten years with the Group. She shares her journey, experiences, and reflections on what it’s really like to work here.

Can you tell us a little about your background and how you came to join Ebbon Group?

I joined Ebbon in June 2016, which means I’ve now been here for almost ten years! Before joining, I worked at Boots as a beauty adviser, but I knew I wanted to move into a 9–5 role and pursue a career in IT. I applied for lots of roles at the time but lacked experience, so I wasn’t having much luck.

Ebbon took a chance on me. They brought me into the team with the promise that they’d help me build my experience and they absolutely did. I started on first-line support, moved into a team leader role, then analyst and product roles. I’ve now been in my current Project Manager position for three years.

What drew you to this role initially?

At the time, I was determined to get into IT. The interview process at Ebbon really stood out. It felt friendly, welcoming, and supportive from the moment I walked in. There was even a short observational test that I genuinely enjoyed. I left feeling comfortable and excited about the possibility of joining the team.

What was your journey like leading up to your current position? Any unexpected turns or challenges?

My journey has been full of challenges, but the good kind, the ones that push you, teach you, and help you grow. Even after ten years, I’m still learning. The company has invested in me through training, including a management course while I worked in support and the Prince2 qualification to help me develop as a project manager.

I’m also completing a Postman course on Udemy to support both myself and my team, especially around testing integrations and understanding customer behaviour. Continued learning has been a constant here.

I’m now also a Mental Health First Aider, which has become an important part of my role in supporting others. The support I’ve received from the people around me has been brilliant. Colleagues have taken the time to help me develop, and leaders like Stuart Hunt have played a big part in my growth.

I genuinely love my job. I enjoy problem-solving, spotting an issue and working out how to fix it. In recent years, I’ve really enjoyed analysing customer requirements, designing solutions, and then seeing those ideas brought to life.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing a product through from initial concept to full development. It’s one of my favourite parts of the role.

Ebbon doesn’t feel like work, it feels like family.

I’ve met some of my best friends here. Everyone supports each other, and it truly feels like we’ve all got one another’s backs. The culture is warm, collaborative, and genuinely caring.

We have regular one-to-ones, team meet-ups, and plenty of opportunities for professional growth. It’s a place where people want you to succeed.

Just do it, you won’t regret it. There’s so much room for professional growth here. Our managers are supportive and always there to help, and if you’re willing to put the work in, you will grow. Everyone works hard, and your efforts are genuinely recognised and rewarded.

We all get on so well, which makes social events brilliant, it feels more like meeting up with friends. The company does a lot for us, and I feel very lucky to work here and to be in the position I’m in now.

I’m grateful that ten years ago they took a chance on someone with no experience.

Is there a project or achievement you’re particularly proud of?

My biggest highlight has been my current project, Orca. It’s been challenging, but in the best possible way. I’ve learnt so much about myself and grown hugely through the process. It’s been eye-opening, rewarding, and has pushed me in all the right ways. I’ve absolutely loved working on it.
