Ebbon Life is highly commended at the Business Car Awards
At the recent Business Car awards, Ebbon Life was highly commended in the Wellbeing Award category. Ebbon Life is Ebbon Group’s collective focus on environmental, social and governance commitments relating to our colleagues, clients, suppliers and shareholders.
We have a dedicated team of Ebbon Life Champions (across all our offices) who are focused on building and implementing a framework to help us deliver tangible results – because it is simply not enough to have good intentions; we must take positive action.
The Ebbon Life Champions work to achieve the following:
– Increase staff wellbeing,
– Change corporate policies to benefit the environment,
– Engage in charitable giving and volunteer efforts within the community,
– Make socially and environmentally conscious investments,
– Improve staff policies and procedures.
We have introduced a Menopause Policy, following an informative ‘Perimenopause and Menopause Awareness’ session. 42% of our staff are female and we felt it was important to consider the effect that the menopause may have on them, and to have a policy in place which supports them. We have also proposed a Wellbeing Policy to support the mental, physical and financial health of our employees.
In 2023, we launched our volunteering policy, which allows all staff two additional paid days off per year. We signed up with OnHand too, as this allows staff to complete ‘missions’ to reduce their CO2 emissions and also provides volunteering opportunities in their local area, or that can be completed remotely. Our staff have used their volunteering days to help at Scout camps, fundraise for charities and to help at animal shelters. These additional days off allow a better work life balance and encourage the team to get involved in the local community and give them satisfaction from participating in an activity which is close to their hearts.
Following the success of the ‘Perimenopause and Menopause Awareness’ session, we have organised online sessions with CRUK to discuss prostate cancer, sessions around mental heath and gut health too. These online sessions are always recorded and shared internally, to ensure that the whole team is able to watch them.
All our staff have the option to join a private healthcare scheme hosted by BHSF, which includes 24/7 access to a GP and counselling service. They are also able to claim back to cost of prescriptions, holistic treatments such as homeopathy and can request grants (for recuperation or maternity) too. Having access to a GP and counselling service, as well as being able to claim back medical expenses, has meant that staff are prioritising their physical and mental wellbeing and aren’t worried about the financial implications, or the availability, of booking an appointment.
We recently held our first company get together, which included inspirational speakers and a range of relaxing and confidence boosting activities (ranging from time in the spa, to low ropes courses and archery). The evening included a meal with a magician, and we received great feedback from the team. The staff have all received reusable water bottles at the event to encourage them to stay hydrated and reduce their single use plastic consumption.
We are aware that it’s often the smaller, more frequent events which boost wellbeing and so we try to plan fun activities every month – such as a buffet lunch, or pancake day competition. Every staff member receives an additional day off for their birthday and a personalised email from the Ebbon Life Champions.
As a company, we have joined ‘Boost Works’ which allows staff access to exclusive offers, discounts on local gyms and free entry to competitions and a monthly lottery. Ebbon Life also allows staff to apply for community funding, and these company donations have allowed orchestras to play and supplied youth football teams with a new kit.
